New addition to the Lighting Design Team
With over 30 years of industry experience under his belt, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Watson as Lighting Design Technical Manager expanding the department.
I am North East born and bred from the West End of Newcastle, and currently live in Blaydon. My career started roughly 30 years ago when I was fortunate to get a modern apprenticeship at a company called Lightplan Lighting Design, where I first met Simon Mooney. I then built up a solid foundation of knowledge working for a couple of North-East based companies. My previous role was lighting design manager at Electric Centre where I was for over four years before an opportunity arose for me to join the team at Park.
I am based at the Park’s Gateshead Specialist Services Office working alongside a team of dedicated engineers. I am exited to be working within a professional team in a busy office on some of the region’s flagship projects.
I have seen Park’s growth over the past few years, I know it has offered and continues to offer young people the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and grow their experience in what is a small and specialised area of the construction industry, lighting design. I am looking forward to being able to pass on my experience at the same time nurturing some new talents while the business continues to grow. I believe that all teams should have a solid blend of experience and fresh ideas as it is a winning formula!!
Karl Snowdon has been the Lighting Design Manager for several years at Park and done a great job, if I can blow his trumpet. I will be working alongside Karl every day, but he will be stepping up to spend more time in a sales role, as Lighting Design Key Accounts Manager. Karl will be spending his time with the larger clients working across the North East, Yorkshire and Scotland on projects.
Like any job there are always new challenges to keep on top of: current legislation, standards, product advancement, trends in lighting technics, new products, IT innovation and visualisations to name a few.
The key to success in my role is to understand the customers’ requirements while delivering excellent service. Lighting-design can be highly subjective in its nature, so you need to know your customer well to meet / exceed their expectations and achieve the best possible results.
Outside of work I am big Newcastle United fan, regularly attending games with my pals. Formula 1 is another passion I am hoping to attend a F1 race soon!
