It’s a family affair for Trevor as he joins our Durham branch

I joined the team at the Durham branch at the end of 2017 and my position is a mixture of warehousing and sales. This is a role that I have enjoyed for the majority of my career.

So, let me tell you a little more about my career journey.

I accepted the position at the branch having previously worked alongside its manager, Stephen Pinny. It was also an opportunity to work with my son, regional development manager, Mark Barrigan. I started my career at Durham-based, Philips Components, where I was for thirty years until the business closed. I moved to an electrical wholesale supplier, Stephenson Cook and then to Newey and Eyre, where I worked for nearly 10 years before I received a phone call from Stephen with an offer to join Park.

For much of my career I have been fortunate to work alongside my son, Mark, who I have proudly watched climb the career ladder to management level. Mark and I formed a close working relationship and friendship with Stephen when he worked at Stephenson Cook as branch manager. Both Stephen and Mark also worked at Newey Eyre.

I have very much enjoyed working with Stephen’s team and when he informed me that he was manager of the Durham branch it was too good an opportunity not to miss. Mark had seized the chance to progress his career from the Sunderland branch at Park and followed Stephen across to Durham and I was hearing positive things as to how the team was progressing.

In this business, the relationships and contacts that you forge, can really shape your career. It goes down to loyalty and trust. If you have a good manager you will look to remain with him or her. Within my role, which is split between warehousing and sales, I would probably say I enjoy warehousing the most, there is less scope for error!

There is fantastic comradery within the branch and I get to see at first-hand how Stephen and Mark flourish in their new roles.
